How it works

The injected solution, called a sclerosant, gently irritates the wall of the vein, causing it to close. Your body then absorbs the treated vein naturally over the following weeks. Because the vein is gone rather than hidden, treated veins do not return, though new ones can appear over time.

We examine your veins, confirm they suit injection and set out your plan in writing. Anything better served by a vascular specialist gets referred, not treated.

Treat

A fine needle places the solution into each vein. Sessions run well under an hour, and you walk out and carry on with your day.

Settle

Treated veins can look darker at first before they fade over the following weeks. Walking is encouraged; we’ll tell you if compression stockings will help.

Review

A follow-up visit checks how fully each vein has cleared and whether a further session is worth it. You’ll hear our honest read either way.

What a session is like

Your appointment

Most sessions take well under an hour, and the needles used are very fine, so discomfort is brief and mild. You can walk out and carry on with your day; we simply ask you to skip strenuous exercise for a short while and wear compression stockings if we recommend them. Veins fade gradually over several weeks, and some patients benefit from more than one session, which we will tell you honestly at your consultation.

Very little. The needles are finer than the ones used for blood tests, and most patients describe a brief sting that fades in seconds. Sessions are short, and you walk out ready to carry on with your day.

How long until I see results?

Treated veins fade gradually over several weeks as your body absorbs them. Some veins clear after one session and others need another, which we will tell you honestly at your consultation.

Will the veins come back?

A treated vein is absorbed by the body, so that vein is gone for good. New veins can appear elsewhere over time, and a quick follow-up session keeps legs looking clear.
