What Is RF Microneedling?

Needles and heat, working below the surface

RF microneedling is a skin treatment that combines two things: fine needles that pass into the skin, and radiofrequency energy delivered through those needles as controlled heat in the deeper layers. People come to it for the look of acne scars, uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, and skin that has started to loosen. It is a medical procedure, and at R.Ve Aesthetics it is performed by a licensed provider under the supervision of our medical director.

Depth and energy are set for your skin and your concern at the consultation, and adjusted area by area during the treatment. That is one reason the person holding the handpiece matters as much as the handpiece itself.

4 Reasons People Choose To Get RF Microneedling

To Address the Look of Acne Scars

A treatment people ask about when scarring from past breakouts still bothers them in the mirror.

To Improve Texture and the Look of Pores

For roughness and visible pores that skincare alone has not changed.

To Work on Fine Lines and Early Looseness

For the first signs of skin that is not as firm as it was.

To Have It Done Under Physician Supervision

RF microneedling is a medical procedure, and people want a licensed provider performing it with a physician responsible for the practice.

The consultation comes first, and the settings are chosen for your skin

At R.Ve Aesthetics no one is treated on a first visit without a consultation. We look at your skin, talk through what bothers you, and decide together whether RF microneedling is the right treatment or whether something else fits better. Depth and energy are set for your skin tone as well as your concern, because deeper skin tones are more prone to darkening after heat based treatments, and the settings are what keep the treatment on the right side of that line. If you would rather see than be told, ask us. We would rather show you than tell you.

Benefits of RF Microneedling

One treatment, two ways of working on the skin.

The needles work at the surface and the radiofrequency works below it, in the same visit.

Two actions in one treatment, at a depth set for you.

Adjustable Depth and Energy

Settings chosen for your skin tone and concern, and changed as needed during the visit.

Suited to a Range of Concerns

Texture, scarring, pores, fine lines, and early looseness are all reasons people come.

A Series, Planned in Writing

Most people need more than one treatment. Your series is written down before you commit to anything.

The Visit

What To Expect During & Post Treatment
Consultation & skin assessment

We review your concerns, your medical history, your medications, and your skin, and confirm whether RF microneedling fits. If it does not, we say so.

Prep & comfort

Skin is cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied and given time to work. You will still feel pressure and warmth during the treatment, and some areas are more sensitive than others.

Treatment

The handpiece moves across the treatment area in passes. With each pass the needles enter the skin, deliver a short pulse of radiofrequency heat, and withdraw. Depth and energy are adjusted area by area as the provider goes.

Immediately after

Skin looks red and feels warm, much like a sunburn. Pinpoint bleeding and small crusts at the needle points are expected.

Aftercare

You leave with our written aftercare instructions for the days that follow, and a clear list of what to call us about.

Downtime

Redness, tenderness, and some swelling for the first few days are typical; dryness, peeling, and crusting can follow as the skin recovers. Plan for a few days before an event.

Results timeline

Changes show gradually as the skin recovers, over several weeks, and build across a series. We see you for a review two weeks after treatment.

Who it isn’t for

RF microneedling is postponed or ruled out for some people. Tell us if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a pacemaker or any implanted electrical device, take blood thinners, have taken isotretinoin in the past six months, have an active skin infection or a history of cold sores, scar with keloids, or have a condition that affects healing or immunity. None of these is a diagnosis we make from a web page. They are the things we ask about at the consultation, and some of them mean a different treatment is the better choice.

Per session, or as a series

Priced per session, with the full series quoted in writing at your consultation. Ask us what the price includes before you book.

Questions, Answered

How is RF microneedling different from microneedling?

Both use fine needles. RF microneedling adds radiofrequency energy, delivered through the needles as heat below the surface, so the treatment works at the surface and in the deeper layers in the same visit. Which one fits you depends on your concern and your skin, and that is a consultation question.

What are the risks of RF microneedling?

Redness, swelling, bleeding, crusting, and tenderness in the days after are expected. Less often, people have changes in skin color, a cold sore flare up, or an infection. The FDA has received reports of serious complications with certain uses of RF microneedling devices, including burns, scarring, fat loss, disfigurement, and nerve damage, some of which needed surgical repair. That is why we treat it as the medical procedure it is: a licensed, trained provider performs it, the settings are chosen for your skin, and you are screened first.

Does RF microneedling cause fat loss?

Fat loss is one of the complications that has been reported with certain uses of these devices, which is why depth and energy are set with care, especially where the skin is thin. Tell us at your consultation if you have had fat loss or a change in volume after any previous treatment.

Does it hurt?

Numbing cream is applied first and given time to work. You will still feel pressure and heat, and we adjust as we go. Tell your provider at any point if it is more than you expected.

How many sessions will I need?

More than one, for most concerns. The number depends on what we are treating and how your skin responds, and your series is written down at the consultation so there are no surprises.

When will I see results?

Over weeks, as the skin recovers, with further change across the series. We review your progress with you two weeks after each treatment.

Is RF microneedling suitable for darker skin tones?

Often, with settings chosen for your skin. Deeper skin tones are more prone to darkening after heat based treatments, so energy is kept lower and the approach more gradual, and the consultation decides whether it is the right treatment for you.
